ABOUT KATE

Kate is an experienced existential psychoanalytic psychotherapist specializing in childhood trauma, complex trauma, and the long-term effects of both single-incident and ongoing traumatic experiences. Based in Sydney, she works with both adults and children, offering therapeutic support to help clients heal and minimize the impact of past traumas on their current lives.

With a deep understanding of trauma’s multifaceted nature, Kate has extensive expertise in addressing a wide range of trauma-related conditions, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), complex PTSD, dissociation, and maladaptive coping mechanisms. She draws on a combination of existential, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed therapeutic approaches, ensuring a holistic and compassionate approach tailored to each client’s unique needs.

Kate has a particular focus on childhood trauma, helping clients understand the long-term psychological, emotional, and relational effects of early adverse experiences. Her work with complex trauma, which often involves multiple or prolonged traumatic events, allows her to support individuals in navigating the complex emotional and cognitive landscapes that can emerge from chronic exposure to abuse, neglect, or systemic violence.

In addition to her work with individuals suffering from childhood trauma, Kate has significant experience supporting survivors of torture and extreme trauma. This experience has honed her ability to offer focused support for those with severe trauma histories, including providing practical tools and therapeutic interventions to address symptoms such as flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, and emotional dysregulation.

Kate is passionate about providing practical strategies for managing trauma symptoms, empowering clients to regain a sense of agency, and supporting them in their healing journey. She works collaboratively with clients to explore the deeper existential questions and meanings that arise in the aftermath of trauma, fostering resilience, self-compassion, and personal growth.

Kate is available for both face-to-face counselling at the Five dock Existential Practice clinic and online consultations via Zoom. She is a clinical registrant with the Psychotherapists and Counsellors Federation of Australia (PACFA), an approved provider for NDIS, WorkCover, Victims Services, Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), and various private health funds. This wide range of provider affiliations ensures she can assist clients with various insurance or funding needs.

Kate is deeply committed to supporting individuals through their recovery, providing not just therapeutic guidance but a compassionate space for healing and transformation.
